Client: Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)

Organization Type: Nonprofit

Project Role: Project management to support the Suicide and Overdose Public Health Initiative (SOPPHI) work plan for Maine

Project Tasks: Via a contract with ASTHO, PHP collaborated with the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention to implement the SOPPHI project in Maine. This included developing and maintaining the project work plan and timeline; managing an $800,000 budget and ensuring appropriate use of federal funds; coordinating state-level partnerships and facilitating meetings; reporting to the funder on progress; managing sub-contracts; and completing deliverable-specific tasks including writing briefs, creating health communication plans and tools, gathering audience input, and developing training and educational materials.

Formative Research

Client: National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD)

Organization Type: Nonprofit

Project Role: Provide literature review assistance to NACDD and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Project Tasks: As a subcontractor to NACDD, PHP was tasked with assisting NACDD’s client, the CDC, with data abstraction for a literature review. To complete this task, the PHP team created a project plan that detailed the literature review parameters, timeline, and methodology; completed a PubMed search; utilized the Covidence software to organize the data abstraction; and formatted the abstracted data into a spreadsheet for the client. Future work for this project includes writing up this process for a paper to be prepared by the client.

Project Outcome: PHP submitted a formatted spreadsheet with data abstracted from more than 300 published studies to the client.

 


 

Client: Autism Faith Network

Organization Type: Nonprofit

Project Role: Obtain audience input into the development of tools and resources

Project Tasks: PHP was asked to gather and analyze qualitative input from parents and individuals at faith-based organizations to determine how to better support individuals with autism and their families. To complete this task, the PHP team collaborated with the client to clarify research aims; developed and maintained a project plan and timeline; conducted virtual focus groups and interviews; analyzed qualitative data; and provided recommendations to the client.

Project Outcome: PHP provided the client with a summary analysis of the discussions and a set of recommendations.

Strategic and Program Planning

Client: Northern Light Health

Organization Type: Healthcare

Project Role: Provide leadership on the development of a monitoring and evaluation plan for community health improvement plans.

Project Tasks: The client was developing a system-wide approach for sites completing community health assessments. They asked PHP to assist them with developing the metrics for their monitoring and evaluation plan. The PHP team facilitated discussions with health system leadership and collaborated with community health staff to complete the monitoring and evaluation plan.

Project Outcome: For this project, PHP completed a monitoring and evaluation plan.

Intervention Development, Implementation, and Evaluation

Client: Brunswick Downtown Association

Organization Type: Nonprofit

Project Role: Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based approaches to worksite wellness within a community.

Project Tasks: PHP was contracted to use evidence-based approaches with local worksites to improve behaviors related to nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco use among employees. This included developing and maintaining the project work plan and timeline; recruiting worksite participants; facilitating workgroups to develop project objectives and goals; and organizing and promoting local wellness activities. The initiative, Healthy Maine Streets, lasted one year.

Project Outcome: PHP was able to engage local worksites to implement healthy eating policies, promote anti-tobacco resources (e.g., QuitLine, Great American Smokeout), and create opportunities for physical activity in downtown Brunswick, Maine.

Training and Education

Client: National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)

Organization Type: Nonprofit

Project Role: Provision of technical assistance to local health departments on suicide, overdose, and adverse childhood events (ACEs)

Project Tasks: PHP was contracted by NACCHO to provide technical assistance to four local health departments that completed the Suicide, Overdose, and Adverse Childhood Experiences Prevention Capacity Assessment Tool (SPACECAT). PHP used the assessment results and interviews with health department staff to develop a pair of virtual trainings and four health department-specific workbooks that addressed the specific technical assistance needs of the health departments, both of which were designed to provide resources for identifying and implementing next steps.

Project Outcome: The technical assistance provided by PHP included:

  • Two virtual discussions with experts on health equity and program integration
  • Four health department-specific workbooks with resources and tools

Health Communication

Client: National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD)

Organization Type:  Nonprofit

Project Role: Development of public-facing educational materials to address the impact of chronic disease risk factors on brain health while aging.

Project Tasks: As a subcontractor to NACDD, PHP has assisted the organization to develop educational materials for the federally funded healthy aging/brain health initiative. This includes developing and maintaining project plans and timelines; managing the budget and ensuring appropriate use of federal funds; completing data reviews to ensure materials are evidence-based; partnering with an NACDD-convened Steering Committee of health communication experts; writing and designing materials; and collaborating with NACDD to disseminate the materials. PHP has also assisted NACDD with modifying the materials to include logos for CDC-funded state and local programs. This is a multi-year project.

Project Outcome: PHP has developed:

  • Multiple rack cards addressing risk factors for use by state and local chronic disease programs
  • An infographic summarizing rack card content

 


 

Client: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Organization Type: Government

Project Role: Develop health communication materials for CDC’s Workplace Health Resource Center.

Project Tasks: The PHP team coordinated with two CDC programs to develop educational materials for small businesses. The assorted materials aimed to help small businesses better understand why and how they could address heart health among their employees. This includes developing and maintaining project plans and timelines; managing the budget and ensuring appropriate use of federal funds; completing data reviews to ensure materials are evidence-based; writing and design of materials; and collaborating with NACDD to disseminate the materials. To complete these materials, PHP developed and maintained project plans and timelines; managed the budget and ensured appropriate use of federal funds; facilitated meetings with two CDC programs; completed data reviews to ensure materials are evidence-based; and wrote and designed materials.
